Vardia Hotel, Kardamyli
vardia

The ‘Vardia’ Hotel (lit. “change of guard”) is so named because the hotel is located right next to the famous old guarding tower on the high hill just behind Kardamyli. Here, 400 years ago, Kardamyliot soldiers used to stand watch over the old village and, from this unique vantage point, they would protect the inhabitants against invasion from pirates and renegades. Nowadays, the view is more important than defence. Below everything is visible – the old village, the new village, the bay, southern Mani, and right across the Messinian Gulf and the western peninsula of the Peloponnese.
Vardia is comprised of 18 independent hotel-style apartments and studios, giving an overall appearance of a very large villa but feeling like a house. There is one 2-bed apartment (sleeps 4-5) and six 1-bed apartments (sleeps 2-4), all with en suite, fully equipped kitchen, living area, private balcony with uninterrupted views, air conditioning, TV and telephone. The eleven studios (ideal for couples and singles) have the same amenities in one spacious area. All rooms are serviced on a daily basis, with change of sheets and towels every other day. The hotel has a large forecourt with ample parking space, a reception area, a cosy dining room and a very lush and spacious garden with paved terraces where you can relax in peace and enjoy the surrounding views. Breakfast is set out each morning in our dining room, and we serve hot coffee and tea, with fresh eggs from our own chickens, bread, honey and yoghurt.
The hotel is a favoured resort for summer holiday-makers, but it is steadfastly also becoming an all-year-round destination for visitors who return time and time again from all over the world to enjoy the beauty and peace of the other seasons in the Mani. Fotini Dimitreas

Kyramai Hotel, Gerolimenas
kyramai

The Kyrimai Hotel in Gerolimenas has a long history. 130 years ago two traders, Michalis Katsimatis from Syros and Theodore Kyrimis from the Mani, began to develop the commercial potential of the Mani through the tiny port of Gerolimenas. The resulting warehousing has been converted into a hotel that offers guests the chance to journey into the past whilst enjoying the comfort of the present. The reception has exhibits that chart the development of trade in Greece in the 19th and 20th centuries.
There are a choice of en-suite rooms, ranging from tower rooms, charming attic rooms and luxury suites. The in-room facilities include: mini bar, TV, AC, movie channels, telephone, safe deposit box, hairdryer, room service and in the suites only, Jacuzzi and fireplace. Other facilities include a large pool right by the sea, a games area with a billiard table and internet connection and a restaurant. Supervision of the latter was undertaken by award winning Greek chef Yiannis Baksevanis in December 2005, ensuring the promise of many culinary delights to diners in the suitably atmospheric dining room.
Local walks, horse riding and boat trips can be arranged by the hotel.

portokagio

Here beneath the barren mountains at the extreme tip of the wild Mani peninsula, nestles the village of Porto Kagio, or “Bay of Quails”, with its five permanent inhabitants.  It is the most beautiful natural harbour, calm as a lake in contrast with the windswept seas beyond Cape Tenaron.  Life slows down here and immediately the warm welcome and tranquil atmosphere of this small haven charms each and every visitor.
